Potential employers receive hundreds of responses to every ad they place. As a resume screener, the first thing I do is weed out candidates based on the first few sentences in the introductory email. If the candidate grabs my attention right off the bat, I am more likely to read their attached cover letter and resume. If the introductory email is riddled with spelling and/or grammatical errors, it gets moved to the "NO" folder immediately!
